Altercon

Altercon is an online Alterhuman convention that is winter holiday themed. Its first year was in 2020, from December 18th to December 20th. I happened to attend it as it interested me, and this is what my input is on it.

Altercon was founded by The Wayward Tides system as well as a few others. There were some controversies and problems that originally was brought up as the server was opened too early. There was originally no verification system, the only online admin at the time shut down and wasn't able to address problems at the time, and the chat frankly went to shit at first with many dashcon jokes and demands for action. I agree that the demands for action were necessary, there needs to be a way to protect minors in a convention, but it did end up being chaos at first.

Once an admin came online the situation was handled properly and the admin who was having issues made an apology and assured it would not happen again (which was correct, it didn't happen again.) A verification system was put in place and the server was talk-locked for a while until closer to the con.

As for the con itself, it went pretty well. The panels that I attended were enjoyable and since the schedule was relatively open there was some panels that were able to continue past their time and extend longer for more discussion and information. Some were a bit messy, mostly due to being more free-formed, but were still enjoyable. Lots of fun was had in the main chats, and people were pretty nice to each other.

Not only was it about otherkin and therian things, there was a lot of talks and panels about systems. It was very informative and gave some good information out as well as personal experiences. It was cool to learn about and of course get to know some situations of people who are systems.

Overall the con was very fun and a nice environment, and I met some pretty cool people there that I'd love to continue to interact with them. I highly suggest to attend next year if it takes place then.
